Honey
From ancient years honey is recommended not only for the “wellbeing” but also
the longevity of a person. In ancient Greece it held a special place
as a natural and health product, essential for everyday dietary needs.
Greek honey is separated in two categories. Anthomela, that are produced
from the nectar of plants and dasomela, that are produced from insects
that are found mainly in trees in the forest. Anthomela receive their
name from the name of plant from which they are produced.
The categories of honey that are produces by Olympic Apiculture are:
Fir Honey
Honey with a rich flavour and few calories, produced from bees which
harvest in the Mainalo Mountain in the region of Bytina. Fir honey
(vanilla) does not crystalize and has a patent with a protected name
of origin.
Flower honey
Mixed honey, which bees harvest from the abundance of plants of Olympia and
depending on the plant origin it is distinguished for its exceptional aroma
and flavour (light colour) or its rich nutritional value (dark clour). Flower
honey crystalizes.
Orange Honey
Honey with a splendid aroma and flavour. It crystalizes in a period of
1-3 months. In this period of time the honey changes from a white to
a dark colour.
Eucalyptus Honey
Honey with a dark colour which has an aroma of flowers with a note of
wax. It has a mild smell which lasts for a relatively small period
of time and a bittersweet taste.
Heather Honey
Honey with high nutritional value, invigorating for the body, It has
an exceptional flavour and a rich aroma. It crystalizes in a period
of 1-3 months. After it crystalizes the color changes to red.
Other products of Olympic Apiculture are: honey, pollen, royal jelly, propolis, wax, biologically produced pollen and royal jelly.
