Royal jelly

Royal jelly is a creamy substance that is secreted from the hypopharyngeal glands in the heads of young worker bees. It is intended to feed all the larvae in the colony including those destined to become workers. Its name comes from the fact that larvae that are intended to become queen as well as adult queens are nourished exclusively with large quantities of this food.

A substance in royal jelly plays the most improtant role in the transformation of a worker bee to a queen.

According to bibliography the daily consumption of royal jelly amounts to 120 up to 180 thousandths of a gram, often reaching half and in exceptional cases one gram. For children the dose should not exceed 1/10 of a gram.
